Engineering Services
Sonar Equipment Services operates a modern workshop facility and a multi-disciplined Engineering Team to undertake maintenance, repair and modification to our extensive equipment range. We ensure all our equipment is maintained to the highest standards, following the manufacturer’s specifications in conjunction with our in-house quality control system. We guarantee that all technical factors are considered when providing integrated solutions to assure our customers peace of mind.
Research and Development
In addition to our Engineering Team, Sonar Equipment Services operates a dedicated Research & Development Team, with exceptional experience in delivering innovative, technical solutions when “off the shelf” answers are not enough. Our mission is to deliver cost effective, functional solutions by taking a “back to basics” approach in order to meet our client’s ever-changing operational requirements.
Test Facilities
Our specialist in-house test facilities allow comprehensive assessment of equipment prior to its release into the field where we recognise failure is not an option. All test and engineering facilities operated by Sonar Equipment Services are available to our customers, so please get into contact with one of our consultants to discuss your requirements.
Acoustic Tank

A purpose built acoustically baffled water tank enables the testing of subsea sensors prior to deployment into the field. Calibrated hydrophones and receivers together with FFT analysis allow fast and accurate measure of system performance.
Pressure Chamber
The pressure test chamber operated by Sonar Equipment Services will simulate the enormous force subsea equipment must withstand when operating in deep water. This is crucial for testing components such as transducers, subsea electronic housings and connectors before operation.
Trials Vessel

When real world testing of equipment is necessary, Sonar Equipment Services can perform sea trials with our customized 10m workboat. The Sonar Explorer will accommodate up to 5 crew members, and features full lab testing equipment with deployment A-frame and winch to vigorously test performance of subsea equipment.
Underwater Terminations
Sonar Equipment Services provides a range of products and services for the reliable termination of subsea electrical connections.
Our cable moulding and termination facility uses a hot curing rubber around the termination to create a chemically moulded bond to a range of materials and surfaces. This technique is frequently used for our cable splices to provide a strong, watertight and oil resistant connection, proven in the deepest waters.
A range of stainless steel and plastic cable grips, including lace-up versions, are available to conveniently terminate cables towing lightweight vehicles.
In high-load applications, SES can supply a proprietary high grade stainless steel tow termination for armoured steel cables between 6mm – 15mm in diameter. DNV tested to retain up to 90% of the cable’s maximum braking strain, our terminations don’t rely on the potting compound for strength, making them well suited for field installation and maintenance.
