To support small boat projects SES have developed the Powered Cable Reel to provide an economical deployment solution for towing lightweight survey equipment. A 24V DC supply is all that is required for operation and can be provided from the boat’s power source or optional portable power pack. A sealed low noise slip ring assembly has been fitted to allow operation of modern digital sidescan and magnetometer towfish. Additionally variable speed or single speed operation is an option. The stainless steel construction is robust but lightweight for portability and to further aid flexibility a series of reels can be configured for multi-deployment operation via a single control interface. This feature gives independent or collective control of instrumentation and has proven an effective solution for UXO Surveys when operating a series of magnetometers.
